AI Detection of Skin Cancer with the DermaSensor

Very Well Health looked at a new device approved by the FDA called the DermaSensor in “This AI Skin Cancer Screening Device Could Save You a Trip to the Dermatologist” and how it can help dermatologists detect the most common forms of skin cancer. The device is wireless and handheld which can provide insight into any skin lesions.  Meant for doctors such as primary care providers, it will help them decide if the patient should be referred to a dermatologist if anything looks suspicious via the use of an AI algorithm.

This will tell doctors whether to monitor or investigate further, but it alone cannot confirm a skin cancer diagnosis. “This device should only be used after a healthcare provider has performed a full clinical assessment of the skin lesion,” Dr. Green said in the article.
