Do Hair Loss Remedies Affect Sex Drive? Mens Health
Menshealth.com asked Dr. Green about how hair loss remedies can affect sex drive in “The Truth About Hair Loss Remedies and Their Effect on Men’s Sex Drive.”
Indeed, a decrease in sex drive can occur if you take Finasteride for example (known often as Propecia) but it is not common. However it can happen, as she notes how “lowered libido, abnormal ejaculation, and erectile dysfunction have been seen in roughly 2% of men taking finasteride.” That said, the issue is not permanent. “If a patient starts one of these hair loss medications and begins to notice a decrease in their sex drive, they can discontinue the medication, and their sex drive will come back,” Dr. Green explains.
She also notes that for those wanting to avoid side effects, other options like topical minoxidil (a.k.a. Rogaine), topical finasteride, or low-dose oral minoxidil can work, as do “platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are an excellent natural alternative to topical or oral medications,” she says.
