Hair.com Talks With Dr. Green About Postpartum Hair Loss

Dr. Green was featured in Hair.com today where she talks about “What Causes Postpartum Hair Loss?” Such as how “during pregnancy, hair stays in the anagen [growth] phase longer due to a surge in estrogen,” Dr. Green explains. “As a result, hair grows longer and looks fuller during pregnancy.”

However, once those nine months are over, estrogen levels drop for the new mother, which can lead to excessive hair fall. “As the body readjusts to its pre-pregnancy phase, there’s often a hormonal imbalance,” explains Dr. Green. “As the hormones stabilize, it can cause increased shedding and no [hair] growth.”

Is Postpartum Hair Loss normal? Yes, and the hair can grow back – Dr. Green notes in the article that “Postpartum hair loss does grow back as hormones stabilize and the hair returns to the anagen [growth] phase,” along with when it may be worth asking a doctor about a potential solution if the hair is slow to grow back.
